This is the original packaging for Emahoy’s 1972 album, The Hymn of Jerusalem, which she completed around the same time as Church of Kidane Mehret. Songs from this album were later re-released on Ethiopiques 21 (2006) and Jerusalem (2023). Below is the album’s description:
“Emahoy Tsege-Mariam Gebru was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on December 12, 1923 of the late Kentiba Gebru Desta from Gondar and his wife Woizero Kassaye Yelemtu, who lives in Addis Ababa. Her first record was released in Germany in 1963. This record now of a 1,000 copies is offered as a welfare contribution to the Orphanage of the Armed Forces Wives Association, and its release was made possible by Woizero Desta Gebru, her sister.”
