In Her Own Words – Emahoy’s Travel to Switzerland

At age 6, Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru, then still named Yewubdar, travelled with her older sister Senedu to receive education in Switzerland. These are excerpts from Emahoy’s own recollection of her travel. “Song of the Sea” was inspired from her memory of crossing the ocean.
Images of Empress Zewditu, Emperor Haile Selassie, and the railroad map to Djibouti are from their respective Wikipedia pages.
